Located in Pico Areeiro, "Freira-da-madeira Dr. Rui Silva Center" is managed by Madeira Natural Park Service and joined the network of biosphere reserves. This center, amongst other things, aims to divulge the natural heritage of the involving area, of which stands out the “Freira-da-madeira”, a maritime bird endemic to Madeira. Essentially oriented to the promotion of this species, the center has a dynamic and interactive permanent exhibition, composed of several chronological thematic posters that illustrate the life cycle of this unique species. The infrastructure includes a desk and visitor orientation, a multifunction space and environmental merchandising.
Freira-da-madeira (Pterodroma madeira)
Located in Sítio Rocha do Navio this was the first Center of the Biosphere to be created. It is a magical place of great cultural, scientific and natural value. This Center which stands out for its permanent connection to the ocean, being not located in the marine reserve, highlighting the observation of an interesting core of “Zimbreiros”, endemic species that present the largest size that there is knowledge.

With a strong cultural and agricultural component the Sítio Rocha do Navio has a space dedicated to environmental education with exhibits and information about Rocha do Navio. You can also take advantage of the biosphere's shop.
This whole Center is duly noted, and accessibility is the best. There are both nameplates in footpath routes created for observation of Juniper. Here there is the possibility of using the cable car, which is paid, depending on the tour that you want to make to the Centre of the Biosphere: it has included the hiring of a staff, the climb or entire trip by cable car, a handmade product and an informative flayer.
