Next week Santana will shelter the first big event allusive to the Biosphere, taking place between the 21st and the 26th of March. The X meeting of the REDBIOS – Network of Biosphere Reserves from the Atlantic East and the Macaronesia- is dedicated to the central theme “Sustainable Tourism in Islands – Insular Reserves”.

Although the official opening session is schedule to Thursday morning, the 22th, in the afternoon of the previous day, the noble hall of the City Hall of Santana will be stage of an initiative allusive to the event. “The Contribute of the Biosphere Reserves to the Regional Sustainable Development” is the theme of the seminar in which will participate, besides several foreign speakers, the Secretary of Tourism, Conceição Estudante, and the Mayor of the hosting council, Rui Moisés.

In the following morning, it will be the turn of the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, Manuel António Correia, to preside the opening session, which will count with the presence of the President of the government of São Tomé e Príncipe. On Friday, stands out the commemorative concert of the award of the World Biosphere Reserve, by the Classical Orchestra of Madeira. This musical performance will take place in the Thematic Park of Madeira. Another high point of this celebration will happen on Sunday morning with the award of the certificate of Biosphere Reserve, with the presence of the President of the Regional Government Alberto João Jardim and the President of the Regional Legislative Parliament, Miguel Mendonça. An hour later, near the main church, a monument allusive to the Biosphere will be inaugurated.
